Mike Magee's free kick was the game winner in a 1-0 win over the New England Revolution reserves Sunday morning at Giants Stadium. You can find a full recap of the game on the official site.
Just a few additional notes from the game:
- Magee's free kick capped off a strong performance for the midfielder. His ability to play well in tight situations and deliver dangerous passes to his teammates definitely has made him stand out.
- Andrew Boyens, recently waived by Toronto FC, was a guest player for the Red Bulls and was in the center of New York's 3-man defense. Did well in organizing the defense and is strong in the air.
- Goalkeeper Zach Thornton also had a good game and made two big saves at the end of the game, one on Argenis Fernandez and the other on Sam Brill, to preserve the shutout.
- For New England, Fernandez was the Revolution's most dangerous player. Crafty and good with both feet, he generated the most chances for New England.
- Midfielder Michael Palacio left the game in the first half after suffering a left knee injury. Palacio will be evaluated this week.
Team is off on Monday, then is back Tuesday to prepare for the San Jose Earthquakes.
