RBNY MOURNS THE LOSS OF GORDON BRADLEY

Red Bull New York today learned of the passing of Gordon Bradley, former coach of the New York Cosmos.

"I was saddened to learn of Gordon's passing," said Red Bull New York Sporting Director Jeff Agoos. "He was a giant in the world of soccer. Professionally we lose an icon in the sport and personally, I lose a dear friend. It's a very sad day for soccer in New York. On behalf of the entire Red Bull New York organization, we extend our condolences to his entire family in this sad time."

HEADED NORTH

The team packed up and headed north after training this morning as the Red Bulls will take on Toronto FC on Thursday at 7:00 pm at BMO Field in a game that will be televised nationally on ESPN2 and ESPNDeportes. You can also listen to the game on WADO 1280 AM in spanish with Ernesto Motta and Robert Sierra.

If you can't make it to Toronto to cheer on the boys, you can watch with your fellow supporters as well as Red Bull staffers at this match's VIEWING PARTY, which will be held at Pub 46 Bar and Grill in Clifton (1081 Route 46 E).

In team news, Kevin Goldthwaite, Hunter Freeman, Dane Richards, and Juan Pablo Angel all were part of the travel party. Each of these four are coming off injury or were forced out of the last game due to injury, so it was good to see them all in their travel gear. The team will play a reserve match against the TFC Reserves on Friday, so it has yet to be determined who will be in the 18 for the First Team match. Juan Carlos Osorio has said in the past that he would prefer for players coming off injury to play a reserve match to prove fitness before playing in a First Team match, so RBR is in no way saying that all four guys will be dressed on Thursday.

If RBR gets any more updates before match time, we will be sure to pass them along.

31st minute: As has been the case recently, NY has started to maintain more possession as the match progresses, but has not produced any dangerous chances so far.

28th minute: Wolyniec showing his usual great pace so far. He has been the Red Bulls most dangerous player so far.

24th minute: Good defensive pressure leads to SJ giving up a corner.

23rd minute: Another corner for SJ. The long balls to Wolyniec are limiting Jozy's touches. Let's see how NY adjusts to get their young star more action.

20th minute: Kamara is back. The Red Bulls are playing long balls to Wolyniec, but nothing to show for it yet.

18th minute: Kamara is down. Looking at the replay, not sure how he got hurt exactly.

THURSDAY: SAN JOSE PREVIEW

Red Bulls Reader chatted with some players about the team's upcoming match with San Jose and got their assessments of what the Red Bulls need to do.

Kevin Goldthwaite:

Seth Stammler:

In some side notes:
Kevin was drafted by San Jose in the 2nd round (17th overall) of the 2005 MLS SuperDraft.

The teams have met 24 times with the Earthquakes (the San Jose franchise held o to the history when the former Quakes moved to Houston - a bit confusing but still true) holding a 13-6-5 advantage in the series. New York is 4-4-4 all time at home vs. San Jose, and is 1-1-4 in the last six matches at Giants Stadium against the Earthquakes. The two teams played to a 5-5 tie on 5/8/04 at San Jose, which is the highest scoring tie in franchise history and matches the most goals combined in franchise history (6-4 win at Dallas on 8/26/00).

Sunday’s match will mark the first time that Juan Carlos Osorio has been the head coach against the San Jose franchise. San Jose head coach Frank Yallop is 2-1-3 as SJ coach vs. New York, and 3-3-4 overall as head coach vs. New York.

Six New York Red Bulls have played against the San Jose franchise (Mike Magee, John Wolyniec, Chris Leitch, Jeff Parke, Seth Stammler, and Carlos Mendes).

Two Red Bulls have played for San Jose earlier in their careers. Jon Conway and Kevin Goldthwaite each played in San Jose. Conway was the Earthquakes third round selection in 2000 and won two MLS Cups during his time there. Goldthwaite played his first professional season in San Jose in 2005.

Three San Jose players once played for New York (Ramiro Corrales, Jason Hernandez, and Joe Vide). All three have appeared this season, with Corrales and Hernandez starting all three matches so far. Vide was selected by San Jose in the MLS Expansion Draft.

TUESDAY AT TRAINING

Red Bulls Reader saw a welcome sight at today's training session. Both Dane Richards and Hunter Freeman (both upgraded from OUT to DOUBTFUL on this week's injury report) participated in a scrimmage and looked on their way to recovery. Neither player is likely to appear in uniform just yet, but their progress had been encouraging. We have yet to see the Red Bulls at 100% full strength, but that is something that may happen sooner rather than later, which is music to our ears.

Also participating in the training session was Andrew Boyens, who is on trial with the team after being waived by Toronto recently. The 6-4 New Zealander played center back for the Orange team.

One more item: Its not too late to vote for Jozy's goal for GOAL OF THE WEEK. Altidore's long run is slowly gaining on Landon Donovan's header, so keep the votes coming!!

US DRAW ANNOUNCED FOR OLYMPIC GAMES

The groups for the Olympic soccer tournament were announced yesterday, and the US drew Japan, the Netherlands, and Nigeria in Group B. This is a difficult draw for the US, as Group B looks to be the most challenging of all four groups. Two Red Bulls are in contention for selection to the team, as both Jozy Altidore and Hunter Freeman participated in the qualifying rounds.

The US will open the tournament with Japan on August 7, before taking on the Netherlands on August 10. Both games will be played in Tianjin before the US rounds out group play in the host city of Beijing on August 10, playing Nigeria.

HERE is an article from Michael Lewis on MLSNet.com

HERE is the official release from USSoccer.com
HERE is a quote sheet from USSoccer.com

What are your thoughts on the US draw? What are there chances to advance past the group stage? Do you think Jozy and/or Hunter will gain selection to the team?

RESERVES DEFEAT REVS, 1-0

Mike Magee's free kick was the game winner in a 1-0 win over the New England Revolution reserves Sunday morning at Giants Stadium. You can find a full recap of the game on the official site.

Just a few additional notes from the game:

- Magee's free kick capped off a strong performance for the midfielder. His ability to play well in tight situations and deliver dangerous passes to his teammates definitely has made him stand out.
- Andrew Boyens, recently waived by Toronto FC, was a guest player for the Red Bulls and was in the center of New York's 3-man defense. Did well in organizing the defense and is strong in the air.
- Goalkeeper Zach Thornton also had a good game and made two big saves at the end of the game, one on Argenis Fernandez and the other on Sam Brill, to preserve the shutout.
- For New England, Fernandez was the Revolution's most dangerous player. Crafty and good with both feet, he generated the most chances for New England.
- Midfielder Michael Palacio left the game in the first half after suffering a left knee injury. Palacio will be evaluated this week.

Team is off on Monday, then is back Tuesday to prepare for the San Jose Earthquakes.

RED BULLS VS. REVOLUTION RUNNING COMMENTARY

RBR is coming to you live from the press box at Giants Stadium and will be providing running commentary of tonight's match. This is a rematch of last season's Eastern Conference semifinal series, in which the Revs got past the Red Bulls, 1-0, on aggregate on their way to the MLS Cup finals.

Great news for New York is that Juan Pablo and Jozy will FINALLY be in the lineup at the same time this season, and will look to show off their offensive prowess, as the duo was lethal when in the starting lineup together last season.

--------------------------------

FINAL SCORE: 1-1. We will be back later with post match reaction from the team.

93rd minute: A shot from Wolyniec from 20 yards goes just wide.

91st minute: A yellow on Igwe earns a free kick.

90th minute: 3 minutes of stoppage time.

89th minute: A shot from Jozy in the box goes right to Reis.

87th minute: What should have been a corner for NY is called a goal kick. Interesting.

84th minute: Final sub for NE: Thompson for Smith.

84th minute: Stammler's shot saved.

83rd minute: A few chances in front of the goal, but nothing to show for it for NY.

79th minute: VDB's cross finds Wolyniecs head, and everything but the ball, including Reis, is in the goal.

77th minute: Both teams sub: NE Dube for Mansally, for NY Magee for Reyna.

71st minute: Borman to Reyna to Jozy whose shot goes right to Reis, who kicks it out, but a great sequence.

69th minute: NE sub, Hilgenbrink for Cristman. Revs looking to earn a point with the added defender.

67th minute: A corner punched out by Reis.

66th minute: A hard knock on Wolyniec goes uncalled.

65th minute: There is still a lot of time left, but if the game ends in a draw, and being a man up for most of the second half, this would not be a good result for the Red Bulls.

64th minute: Borman's crossing almost pays immediate dividends, as Wolyniec's redirect goes just over the top.

61st minute: Borman for Sinisia. Borman is dangerous on the wings, so we will see how this effects the Red Bull attack. VDB slides over.

58th minute: A nice buildup leads to a VDB cross, but its too strong.

56th minute: Larentowicz slots it to the far post to knot things up. Blasts it just to the right of the wall and out of the reach of Conway.

54th minute: Crisman fouled just outside the area. Dangerous free kick for NE, especially a man down.

51st minute: Cross to Wolyniec, but he is offside.

46th minute: Wolyniec for Angel. Right away a scrum and a red card issues to Castro. While on the ground, Castro kicks Goldthwaite in the lower abdominals after Kevin stepped on him by accident. Goldy get a yellow.

HALFTIME: A strong first 45 for the Red Bulls. See you in a few.

44th minute: A nice sequence between VDB and Jozy.

40th minute: Osorio's boys have really neutralized the speed of the Revs attack so far. Parke has been solid in his return to the lineup.

38th minute: The goal has energized the Red Bull attack, and the Revs look a little on their heels. Sinisia with a chance that is easily saved.

37th minute: A nice back heel from Jozy gives VDB room to run, but his cross is too strong.

32nd minute: Things getting chippy with Joseph, Stammler and Jozy. No love lost between these two sides.

31st minute: Jozy scores his first goal of the season and it was a beauty, beating several defenders along the way. A possible Sierra Mist Goal of the Week?

30th minute: GOAL RED BULLS!! Jozy with a fantastic run through several defenders from the midfield circle puts it to the back of the net from about 17 yards.

28th minute: The first set piece for New York finds the head of Goldthwaite, who heads it over the goal. He continues to look dangerous in the air this season.

27th minute: Angel finds Jozy, whose shot is deflected over for a corner.

26th minute: Reyna with a hard knock on Parkhurst that goes uncalled.

25th minute: Things are starting to pick up offensively, as Angel's cross to Reyna goes through as the captain was not onside.

25th minute: The Revs counter and Cristman is running alone in the middle of the area, but the ball does not find him.

24th minute: Jozy with a great deke to create space, earns the Red Bulls a throw in.

22nd minute: Angel looks pretty solid so far, almost getting to a Goldthwaite diagonal ball.

21st minute: A second corner for the Revs. Not much in terms of scoring chances at this point for either side.

16th minute: Igwe with a blast about 20 yards that just goes wide. The best chance of the match so far.

15th minute: Leitch finds Angel at the top of the area, but his shot goes over the top.

11th minute: First corner of the game goes to the Revs. Set pieces, both offensively and defensively, have been something the team has focused on this week in training.

9th minute: Yellow card issued to Sinisia for a tackle from behind.

7th minute: The Revs look to be trying to work the Red Bulls' right flank of Leitch and Mendes.

6th minute: Larentowicz down after a minor knock from Jozy. He's up and looks to be ok.

2nd minute: There will not be a first minute tally this week.

1st minute: And we're off. The first few minutes have pretty much decided the match is each of the Red Bulls first two outings. Let's see how things start out tonight.

PRE-GAME- Here is the Revs' starting lineup and formation:

-----------Cristman-----Mansally--------------

Smith---------------Castro--------------Nyassi

----------Larentowicz-----Joseph--------------

FRIDAY'S REPORT FROM TRAINING

The guys went through a light session this afternoon on a GORGEOUS day (I think I have said that every day this week, but, in my defense, each day has been better than the last), going through some final scouting and technical training before tomorrow's match with the Revs.

RBR can report that Juan Pablo participated in the entire session, and, though still a game-time decision and still listed on the injury report, it is very likely that he will see action tomorrow night, as long as there is no setback between now and then.

In other injury news, David Roth was spotted on the stationary bike as he continues his rehab from a knee injury suffered during the preseason. The Northwestern product worked on his tan (and he needs one) while doing his best Lance Armstrong impression. Also, Hunter Freeman was on the field doing agility drills and it looks like he is progressing nicely from the ankle injury he suffered during Olympic Qualifying (the boot is off thank goodness). Dane Richards was also out there, taking part in agility drills while also doing some running to maintain his fitness.

THURSDAY'S QUICK HITS

We are just two days from the Red Bulls' tilt with the Revs, and RBR welcomed Jozy back after a day away to do a media day for the USOC. Jozy was the only men's soccer player there among the numerous athletes and events represented, so the young Red Bull will be getting plenty of face time leading up to the games and the coverage surrounding it. He also sat through a plethora of interviews (not pinatas) and did a bunch of photo shoots (one of the photos is above. Not sure why they went with such a shadowy picture, but I am not an artist).

In other news, we got Jozy's take on the Revs game here:

Continuing the striker theme, Juan Pablo participated in the full session today and his status for the game, though still not a certainty, is looking much better than it was this time last week. All of us here at RBR are keeping our fingers crossed that we can see the dynamic duo finally on the same field at the same time this season.

We hope to have more on Jozy's day at the USOC Media Day tomorrow.

HUMP DAY PRACTICE

RBR headed out to practice today to soak up some of this awesome weather and catch up with some of the Bulls. As you can see in the above photo, Guillermo Imhoff officially began his trial with the club today. The Argentine participated in the entire training session, playing left back in the scrimmages. He also did a nice job in the 1v1 drills that Coach Osorio ended the session with.

Dane Richards is continuing his recovery from a knee injury and RBR got some shots of him as his rehad progresses. Today we saw him performing cutting drills:

As well as doing some crosses:

Also, rookie defender Eric Brunner was back in action with the full team in training, wearing a protective mask to protect his recently broken nose. It was good to see Eric get back into action.

MYSTERY MAN REVEALED

There has been much speculation recently about which at-that-point unidentified South American defender Juan Carlos Osorio was going to bring in on trial.

There was some confusion yesterday, when invitee Sebastian Garcia played in the Red Bull Reserves match against Seton Hall University, as some mistakenly thought he was the unidentified South American.

But Red Bulls Reader can confirm today that Argentine Guillermo Imhoff has begun his trial with the Red Bulls.

Imhoff started his career playing in the Argentine Primera, where he had spells with Colón de Santa Fe, Huracán de Tres Arroyos and Gimnasia de Jujuy. The central defender last played for Wacker Innsbruck of the Austrian Bundesliga, the same league as Red Bull Salzburg.

RB RESERVES ROLL PAST SETON HALL, 5-0

Here is the recap from this morning's reserve match:

Here is how the Red Bull lined up to start the match:

-------Wolyniec –------ Megaloudis --

-------------Magee------------

-- Mesa --- Marmol --- Palacio --- Kim --

-- Gilkerson ----- Innes ----- Mendes --

------- Sewell-Patterson -------

CLICK HERE FOR FULL RECAP RELEASE ON OFFICIAL SITE

Thank You Captain Obvious Point #1: A pro team is a very different animal than a college team. The Red Bulls were bigger, stronger, quicker, and more technical than the Pirates.
Thank You Captain Obvious Point #2: Innes and Marmol were the best players on the pitch without a question. It possible that that duo, with Mega, could have beated SHU on their own, and shut them out in the process. Until the end of the match, Seton Hall had no legit scoring chances, with Innes and Marmol (who played right back in the second half) negating anything that came close to them.

Here are some additional notes:
Innes really held together the back line well, organizing and being very vocal. He also impressed in the air.

Mega can flat out finish.

Because of the injuries to the team (Brunner, Roth, Freeman, Richards, etc), five players were brought in for the match, with two (Kim and Gomez) earning points.

A CASE OF THE MONDAY'S

It's a new work week, and RBR will be kicking it off with a reserve match, as the Red Bull Reserves will take on Seton Hall University at Montclair State later this morning. RBR will provide a recap of the match and notes from the day this afternoon. Until then, enjoy your Monday.

RED BULLS 0, FC DALLAS 2 POST-GAME

A tough game to judge considering the fact that the Red Bulls had their chances but an FC Dallas early goal put them behind the 8-ball early. The general consensus among the coaches and players post-game was that they carried the run of play at times and could of gone home with a point, but lack of sharpness in front of the net was the downfall.

Below are some audio clips from the players and Osorio. Also, make sure to check out the post-game thoughts from coach Osorio on MLSNet.com (thanks to FC Dallas Communications for helping out with this).

Midfielder Dave van den Bergh on the game:

Forward Jozy Altidore on the game:

Coach Osorio on generating chances:

The Red Bulls (1-1-0) next take on the New England Revolution, who lost 1-0 tonight at home to the Colorado Rapids. Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM on Saturday at Giants Stadium. For tickets, please call 1.877.RBSOCCER or log onto www.newyorkredbulls.com.

RED BULLS-FC DALLAS (PRE-GAME)

Welcome to Frisco, Texas - where the Red Bulls are taking on FC Dallas at Pizza Hut Park.

We know you're ready for the lineup so here it is:

Jon Conway (GK), Kevin Goldthwaite, Chris Leitch, Dave van den Bergh, Luke Sassano, Sinisa Ubiparipovic, Seth Stammler, Danleigh Borman, Claudio Reyna, Oscar Echeverry, Jozy Altidore.

Bench: Caleb Patterson-Sewell, Mike Magee, Carlos Mendes, Kevin Mesa, Michael Palacio, John Wolyniec, Chris Megaloudis

And here's how Dallas lines up (3-5-2):

Dario Sala (GK), Drew Moor, Duilio Davino, Adrian Serioux, Dax McCarty, Andre Rocha, Pablo Ricchetti, Juan Toja, Blake Wagner, Arturo Alvarez, Kenny Cooper

Bench: Ray Burse (GK), Ricardinho, Dominic Oduro, Aaron Pitchkolan, Marcelo Saragosa, Abe Thompson, Anthony Wallace

It's a sunny day here is Frisco with a light, chilly breeze. The low tonight is forecasted to be as low as 41 degrees. Some notes for you:

- As has been reported, forward Juan Pablo Angel did not make the trip due to a left hamstring strain. Goalkeeper Zach Thornton also picked up a left hamstring strain and Caleb Patterson-Sewell is the back-up goalkeeper tonight.
- The team was delayed at Newark Airport for two hours on their way to Dallas-Fort Worth, but we eventually made it to the team hotel at 10:30 PM.
- Since Hunter Freeman, the team's designated Texan who is actually from nearby Allen, Texas, is not on this trip due to his right ankle sprain, guess who has the largest family contingent here? It's none other than Dutchman Dave van den Bergh. Why do you ask? Well, his wife's family is from Dallas.
- Pre-game, there was an intense game of soccer tennis in the Red Bulls locker room between the team of van den Bergh and John Wolyniec against Mike Magee and Kevin Goldthwaite. All furniture (and human beings) were in play and in the end, van den Bergh and Wolyniec were victorious.

We'll be running around Pizza Hut Park throughout the match but please feel free to post your thoughts on the match, which is being televised on MSG. And make sure you check out the post-game reaction exclusively posted here on Red Bulls Reader.

HALFTIME UPDATE: Ironically enough, Arturo Alvarez scores his club's second fastest goal in team history (51 seconds) to start a match a week after Dave van den Bergh scored the Red Bulls quickest (46 seconds). 1-0 FC Dallas right now, though the Red Bulls had a number of chances. Jozy Altidore had a potential PK call in the 14th minute that was waived off by referee Jair Marrufo. And before the half, Dave van den Bergh hit a great corner that Kevin Goldthwaite and Luke Sassano almost were able to knock in. On the other end, Jon Conway makes a great save to block an Alvarez break away.

THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE PREVIEW

Red Bulls Reader made it out to practice today, as the team went through its final local preparations for its match with FC Dallas on Saturday. The session centered around special situations and tactical maneuvering, as the players geared up for their first road game of the season.

(Sinisia and Stammler go over some tactics with Coach Osorio)

The good news is that Jozy is traveling with the team and is likely to start vs the Hoops.

The bad news is that Juan Pablo is not traveling with the team and will remain in New York while rehabbing his hamstring injury.

The preview comes from one of the key players in last week's win, Kevin Goldthwaite.

MMM, THAT SOUNDS GOOD, I'LL HAVE THAT: LINKS OF THE DAY

It's Friday, folks, and RBR is getting geared up for the club's match at Dallas tomorrow. To get your day kicked off, so to speak, here are some team related links from the past few days that can help you get through your work day. RBR will attempt to provide these types of links on a regular basis.

A LOOK BACK AT OPENING DAY: RED BULL SUPPORTING THE RED BULLS

Pictured above (L-R: Brian Grubb - Wakeskater, Chris Davenport - Freeskier, Tao Berman - Extreme Kayaker, Jamie Sterling - Surfer, JD Webb - Wakeboarder)

Prior to the home opener against the Crew, Red Bull New York hosted a charity match on the Giants Stadium field. Not only where there celebrities from the worlds of television, journalism, movies, soccer, and more, but five Red Bull athletes came out to support World Wide Children's Charity Day. RBR caught up with some of the guys after the match, and they all had nothing but great things to say about their participation. Having come in from all over the country (they compete all over the world), it was great to have these guys take time out of their hectic schedules to support fellow Red Bull ventures as well as a great cause. Though none of the guys thought their effort merited contacts with the club, they all represented themselves well on the pitch.

RED BULLS WRAP 33 IS UP!

The 33rd episode of Red Bulls Wrap, the Red Bulls' official podcast, is now posted here, ready to be downloaded. Shep Messing and MSG's new play-by-play announcer Steve Cangialosi give insight on the Red Bulls' 2-0 win over the Columbus Crew last Saturday, the second week of MLS action and look ahead to our showdown against FC Dallas! Let us know what you think of Steve and Shep's viewpoints as we head into Frisco.

THURSDAY TRAINING

As you can imagine, its been pretty hectic for RBR the past 24 hours, and we apologize for slowing down our posting rate. With that being said, RBR was outside on this GORGEOUS day attending Red Bull training at Giants Stadium, and is back with a report.

The team worked on a lot of finishing drills during the later portion of practice, while working on possession and distribution during the early portion.

RBR brought the camera, and did its best photographer impersonation for some shots from the session.

(Jozy sharpens his marksmanship)

The team departs for Frisco tomorrow, but even though the team is out of town, that doesn't mean you can't get together with your fellow supporters to have a beverage and enjoy the match! The first Red Bull Viewing Party is this Saturday at Mulligan's on First in Hoboken! Red Bull staffers will be there, so come out and support the club in its first road match of the season. You never know, maybe your photo will make a post on Red Bulls Reader!

RBNY MANAGING DIRECTOR MARC DE GRANDPRE RESIGNS

SECAUCUS, NJ (April 9, 2008) – Red Bull New York announced today that Managing Director Marc de Grandpre has resigned after a nine-year career with Red Bull. De Grandpre has accepted a new position in the business community.

“I am sad to leave the many outstanding people that have been a part of the success and excitement of the Red Bulls,” said de Grandpre. “This was a very hard decision for me as I have been dedicated to making the Red Bulls a success. I have had to make many difficult decisions over the course of my career, but this was the most difficult.

“I have been offered an opportunity that I couldn’t turn down. This was a decision that I made solely with my family. I’ve enjoyed my time with the Red Bulls as they have so many dedicated and passionate people within the organization. I leave knowing that we have built a team of championship caliber both on and off the field. I am confident that all of the pieces are in place for the organization to prosper. Soon, the team will be playing in the Red Bull Park, in Harrison, New Jersey, as well as practicing at Red Bull Training Grounds in Hanover, New Jersey.”

De Grandpre joined Red Bull in 1999 and started his position as Managing Director of the Red Bulls in April 2006.

BLOOD, SWEAT, AND A MEMORABLE NIGHT OUT

Late last week, rookies David Roth and Luke Sassano took in an IFL event at the Izod Center in the Meadowlands. RBR caught up with the two Red Bull newcomers after training today to get a recap of their experiences.

RBR: Have either of you ever been to a mixed martial arts event before?

Roth: No, nothing like that. I had been to a college wrestling match, but nothing like this where guys are getting knocked out and blood is flying out.

RBR: What was the atmosphere like?

Sassano: Pretty much what I expected. It was a rowdy crown that was pretty much looking for blood. It was pretty exciting. You knew a guy could get knocked out at any moment.

RBR: We heard you got seats from someone inside the IFL. Did you guys have good seats?

Roth: Yeah. We sat around 10 rows back.

RBR: Sitting so close, were there any thoughts about possibly getting splattered?

Sassano: We had a little fear of that before we went in, but it wasn’t too bad.

RBR: Any inspiration to change careers?

Roth: 100% no. I was by no means influenced to get in the ring. The thought never crossed my mind.

Sassano: I think I am going to stick with soccer. Soccer is pretty physical, but that is taking it to another level.

RBR: Favorite moment of the event?

Roth: There was one fight where the guy did a flying knee to the face and the other guy was instantly knocked out and his eyes rolled to the back of this head. That was pretty brutal. Also, the crowd would yell things out during the match, like “put him in the arm bar.” I don’t know what that means, but it was pretty funny. And of course the crowd liked the ring girls.

RBR: Did you get any perks?

Sassano: We had backstage passes and got to go into the luxury suite. We also got to meet some of the IFL executives and got t-shirts and hats. We also got to meet some of the fighters. It was a fun experience.

RBR: Would you go again?

Roth: Yeah, for sure. I had a good time.

Sassano: Absolutely.

POWER TO THE PEOPLE: SOUND OFF ON THE SOUNDERS

The name and logo for the Seattle franchise was officially unveiled yesterday, and, by popular demand, Seattle Sounders FC was the winner. After being asked to vote on names such as Seattle Alliance or Seattle Republic, a tremendous write in campaign (over 50% of the voters) influenced the ownership group and MLS to go with the name that has been associated with Seattle soccer for years, Sounders. The team will sport colors that are reminiscent of the northwest, and the team will begin play in 2009 (with or without Henry, depending on the rumors you hear).

What do you think of the team name? What about the shield and color scheme? Where do you think MLS should expand next (if you think it should at all)?

IT'S OFFICIAL: INNES TO TRAIN WITH RED BULLS; RESERVE GAME RECAP

The Red Bulls announced Monday that defender Chris Innes will be training with the team starting Tuesday, April 8. Innes, 31, was most recently with Scottish Premier League side, Gretna. Serving as captain, Innes helped Gretna earn promotion from the Scottish Third Division to the Scottish Premier League from 2005-08 before he was released by the club. Innes, from Broxburn, Scotland, has also played for Scottish clubs Stenhousemuir (1996-98), Kilmarnock (1998-03) and Dundee United (2003-05).

What are your thoughts on Innes potentially joining the team?

In other Red Bull news, the Red Bull Reserves defeated St. John's University, 3-2, yesterday at Montclair State University. Jozy Altidore tallied a brace to lead the Red Bulls, while Danleigh Borman also recorded a goal. After not playing in the game against Columbus, Jozy's performance is a very encouraging sign after he tweaked his knee late last week.

TEAM DAY OFF; LOOKING BACK

The guys are off today, but Red Bulls Reader is still hard at work. As we get ready for the FC Dallas match this weekend, let's take a look back at the win over Columbus Saturday night with some feedback from you.

What are your thoughts on the team's performance?
Did you attend the game, and if so, did you enjoy all the festivities surrounding the game?
Who do you think the Man of the Match was?
Who do you think was the Unsung Hero of the game?
Who do you think underperformed?

Let us know in the comments section below, and let us know what you are looking for us to add here at RBR.

RED BULLS VS. COLUMBUS -- SEASON OPENER

Red Bulls Reader coming to you from high up in the Giants Stadium press box as we start of the 2008 Red Bull Season. The starting lineups are in, and here is how the teams will line up in the Red Bulls season opener:

---------------Angel---------Echeverry------------

VDB-----------------Reyna----------Sassano------

------------Stammler----Ubiparipovic------------

Goldthwaite---------Parke-----------------Leitch

----------------------Conway----------------------

Columbus Crew lineup:

-------------------------Moreno--------------------------

Rogers-----------------Schelotto----------------Gaven

-----------------Moffat----------Carroll-----------------

Miglioranzi------Marshall---O'Rourke-----------Hejduk

---------------------------Hesmer--------------------------

Jozy is not starting tonight after tweaking his knee in training on Friday, but he is dressed and available for head coach Juan Carlos Osorio as the new coach makes his Red Bulls debut.

On a side note, here is a funny story from yesterday:

A volunteer for tonight's match was flying in from Ohio (where he goes to school) and was in the airport wearing RBNY gear when who should walk in to the terminal than the Columbus Crew traveling party! As the team and our trusty volunteer were waiting for the plane, the Crew were warily eyeing our man in Red Bulls gear. When the flight was called, one of the players on the Crew jokingly told our guy "Don't even think about getting on this flight." Nothing came of it, but it should provide extra motivation for the Red Bulls tonight.

---------------------------------------
GAME OVER: Nice win for the Red Bulls, and a great start to the Osorio era.

90th minute: 3 minutes of stoppage time.

89th minute: A solid scoring chance for the Crew, but Hendrickson pokes it over the net.

89th minute: CLB is controlling posession, but can't get any solid looks on net. RBNY looking to close things out strong down a man.

83rd minute: A CLB cross into the box, but two Crew run into eachother. That seems to be the way it is going for them tonight.

81st minute: Second yellow for Parke. He is sent off.

79th minute: Magee for Reyna.

71st minute: Wolyniec for Echeverry.

70th minute: Nice sequence by CLB, but no quality scoring chance.

NOTE: With Hendrickson now in the game, all the former Red Bulls on the Crew are on the record.

66th minute: 3rd sub for CLB: Hendrickson for Miglioranzi.

65th minute: Yellow for Parke for a hard foul.

63rd minute: Gaven's free kick goes over the crossbar.

61st minute: A great cross to Rogers, nearly offside, earns CLB a corner. Evans comes on for Moffat for CLB. The corner earns a free kick outside the box. Another sub for CLB: Hernandez for Schelotto.

60th minute: A nice run by Borman earns a corner.

58th minute: Nice individual effort by Moffat, but nothing to show for it.

TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES: Sorry about that. Unforseen circumstances, but we are back. Borman for Sinisia, and a PK by Angel saved by Hesmer.

HALFTIME: Red Bulls dominated for a 2-0 lead.

45th minute: 1 minute of stoppage time.

41st minute: Sinisia carded after a hard foul.

40th minute: CLB is starting to generate some better chances, but Conway has not been seriously threatened.

32nd minute: A dangerous through ball by Hejduk finds no one.

30th minute: A great buildup by the Red Bulls earns a corner, but Hesmer comes off his line to prevent the threat.

29th minute: Rogers puts one just wide for CLB on their best opportunity of the night from just inside the box.

25th minute: CLB is having trouble stringing together more than one or two passes.

21st minute: Off another CLB turnover, Angel get an open look from 18 that is parried by Hesmer, and Hesmer has to come up big again on the follow by Echeverry. Another quality chance.

17th minute: Things are calming down a bit, but the aggressive play of the Red Bulls is causing CLB fits.

12th minute: CLB earns a free kick from 20 yards out, but nothing comes of it.

8th minute: GOAL RED BULLS!! Angel redirects a VDB corner, and Kevin Goldthwaite puts it in from his back in the goalmouth. The RBNY offense is looking potent.

NOTE: VDB's goal is the fastest in team history.

5th minute: Echeverry pounces on a turnover in the area, but can't get much pace on his shot.

4th minute: RBNY continues to apply pressure, earning a corner, but Hesmer comes off his line to diffuse the chance.

1st minute: GOAL RED BULLS!!: VDB blasts a left footer past Hesmer from 20 yards out. 46 seconds and the Red Bulls take the lead!!

1st minute: And we're off...

7:32: A rousing anthem by Katelyn Tarver of Radio Disney. Now lets get to the action.

7:31: The teams are taking the field as we await the national anthem.

7:24: The game ball arrives, courtesy of the Red Bull Air Force, as four gentlemen parachuted into the stadium, making near-perfect landing in the circle.

PREGAME: The festivities on the field are beginning as we near the start of the match.

In other MLS news, West Ham United has been officially announced as the opponent in the MLS All-Star game, to be played in Toronto on July 24. After Juan Pablo Angel took home the MLS All-Star game MVP trophy last season, RBR is wondering if the Red Bulls can repeat the honor, whether its Angel or maybe Jozy or Claudio or someone else. Food for thought.

WEDNESDAY PRACTICE; EVENTS OF THE DAY

Today's practice was typical of the one's Coach Osorio has implemented this season. By the RBR means the team did plenty of finishing drills with the whole session being very competitive. With just the season opener just three days away, the team is getting geared up for what should be an exciting season.

Following practice, RBR caught up with rookie Luke Sassano and asked him if he has been thinking about his professional debut this Saturday.

“We think that Danny is a talented young player and feel that it is vital for him to gain match experience,” said Red Bull New York Sporting Director Jeff Agoos. “We are certain that Danny’s time in Harrisburg will be beneficial and help him develop as a player.”

Last season, the 22-year-old played in eight games for the Red Bulls reserves, starting in three matches.

RED BULL PARK ENTERS NEXT PHASE OF CONSTRUCTION

RBR knows what you are thinking. "This is a April Fool's joke. Things aren't REALLY progressing at the new stadium." BUT NO!! This is no joke. As announced on the official site, the next phase in the construction of Red Bull Park - Built By Makita (more on that tomorrow)- has commenced.

After breaking ground in December 2007, over 2,600 of the 3,200 timber piles that support the stadium foundation have been driven into the ground. The construction is now set to enter the next phase -- construction of the concrete foundations that will serve as the base of the structure. The forming of the concrete foundations was recently started and the placement of concrete in the foundations to begin in the very near future. This construction of the concrete pile caps and grade beams for the foundations will continue through June. After the concrete foundations are completed, the next phase will be the erection of the structural steel frame, which is set to commence this summer.

TUESDAY PRACTICE; RED BULLS IN THE NEWS

The team began its final week of preseason preparation today, training at the team's practice facility at Montclair State University. The training session was primarily fitness, and ended with 7 v. 7 possession drills.

Red Bull Reader was there to put the finishing touches on a new episode of Red Bulls Insider, which will make its 2008 season debut later this week. RBR also facilitated a few interview as the club's season opener on Saturday draws near.

The team was featured in a myriad of news outlets recently, and not your general sports outlets.

The team and Red Bull Park was included in a Forbes feature on new stadium construction, which ranks Red Bull Park among the new wave of Super-Stadiums that are being built.

The efforts of the team to promote the Red Bulls and soccer in America was noted in this article in the New York Times Business Section.

These articles caught the attention of the blog-o-sphere, as the team's efforts to get coverage for the team amid the deluge of news surrounding baseball's opening week was recognized on JoeFavorito.com. Joe is a highly respected member of the sports communications world and is the former VP of Public Relations for the New York Knicks and the current Senior Vice President, Communications for the International Fight League. RBR is very pleased with this mention.

PARKING UPDATE: APRIL 1, 2008

Due to ongoing contruction at the Meadowlands, the amount of parking spaces and available lots will be changing periodically throughout the season. As a result of these continuing improvements, traffic patterns and access to certain parking lots will be affected. Please allow extra time for travel and parking. Please reference the above map. This map will be updated periodically, and Red Bulls Reader will keep you up to date.

We appreciate your patience as these improvements are made and thank you for helping us make your visit to Red Bulls matches a comfortable, convenient and pleasant one.
