A beautiful day in Cary, NC as the Red Bulls arrived safely in North Carolina early afternoon. After finding a bite to eat and a short rest, the Red Bulls went out to train at WakeMed Soccer Park, a facility with seven soccer fields, including a main stadium field, where they will be taking on the Carolina RailHawks on Friday night at 7:30 PM.
A few random tidbits:
- One common comment among the players and coaches was the pristine quality of the field, with the grass being perfectly cut without any major worn down patches or holes. It helps when you have a large crew of groundskeepers, but still, very impressive.
- Jozy Altidore was back on the field for likely his third training session with the Red Bulls in 2008. He’s missed so much time with the U.S. Men’s National Team and U.S. Under-23s that he really hasn’t been able to train with some of his new teammates. Jozy ran in front of the net and started playing goalkeeper at the start of practice. Mike Magee and Seth Stammler pinged shots in every corner as Jozy dove for some and complained about how the shooters were too close (they were 18 yards out). Jozy said that they only scored 5-of-13 – Seth and Mike said it was more like 13-of-15. RBR recommends that Jozy would be better served scoring goals rather than trying to save them.
- Red Bulls Wrap: Episode 31 is posted on www.newyorkredbulls.com and on the right column of this page. JP and Shep talk about the team’s trip to Charleston and Shep catches up with Juan Pablo Angel at the 2008 Media Day.
- Another reminder – tomorrow’s match against the RailHawks will be televised live on www.usllive.com. We’ll be there to bring you all of the action as well.
