CASE OF THE TUESDAYS

Though it was an optional training session, more than half the team showed up and ran through a set of drills and full field games at the Giants Stadium Practice Bubble on Tuesday. As typical with most practices, a group of players, including Juan Pablo Angel and Mike Magee, took part in a number of finishing drills at the end of training.

The Red Bulls were hit with the news today that Dane Richards will be out for three months with a torn MCL. According to the team medical staff, who evaluated the 2007 Rookie of the Year finalist on Monday, Richards does not need surgery. Richards started in 27 of 30 games for the Red Bulls last season and recorded six assists.

However, the bright spot is that the Red Bulls do have a number of options that could fill in for the speedy Jamaican. Defender Hunter Freeman, currently with the U.S. U-23 Men’s National Team, could play there, as well as rookie Luke Sassano.

Here is what head coach Juan Carlos Osorio said about Richards’ injury after practice today.

I hope this doesn't slow Richards down any.
