DAY OFF: RED BULL EURO PICKS

The team has the day off following their win over Chivas USA last night, but the front office is hard at work today, so why not call and buy some tickets.

RBR took a poll of the front office to get their picks for Euro 2008, which kicks off tomorrow. Of the 26 RB staffers polled, eight chose Italy to be the champion, ahead of Germany, who received five votes. The rest of the front office put their soccer faith behind the following countries:

Portugal: 4
Holland: 3
Spain: 3
Poland: 1
Czech Republic: 1
Croatia: 1

RBR also asked the front office staffers who they thought might be good dark horse candidates to take home the silverware. Austria, the home of Red Bull, was named three times, though those picks might have been made just in case Mr. Mateschitz was reading this blog, as the co-hosts are the longest odds to win the title. Russian also received three votes. A couple other dark horse sides named were Portugal, Poland, Romania, and Sweden, all selected twice.

As for RBR, we are among the popular vote with Italy emerging victorious and Russia as the dark horse. Jeers to RBR for going with the popular vote.

What are your thoughts on the tournament? Who do you think will take home the silverware? Who is a good choice as a dark horse candidate? Who will be the top goal scorer?

Why is everyone on Portugal's nutts? B/c of C.Ronaldo? Look at there line up the only strength they have is there midfield, which yes is stacked, Nani, Quaresma, Ronaldo, but they have always been weak on top and on defense. People seem to believe this team has been is going to score goals out the wazu but they have mostly been a 1-0, 0-0, team.

Ronaldo is not focused on the Euros he's more focused on where he's going or not going. He's not gonna light it up like most think, Quaresma will probably outshine him. If they make it out of groups they won't make it past the knockout stages. IDK, I see this team as a bust, I just don't see how any team can win without goal scorers, the mid-field can't do it all.

Sooner or later Spain's mental breakdown during big tournaments has to come to an end and I'm thinking it will end this year. Spain will win this tournament IMO. They have 11 vs 11, IMO, the best squad in the world, you could argue Italy and France who have great squads as well. They pass the ball beautifully and have great goal scorers and a good back line.

Dark Horses, Russia or Romania, both teams have improved tremendously.

Golden Boot, I gotta go with Fernando Torres, kid never seems to lose a step, even when he doesn't score he's helping his team some how.
