The NYPD “Finest” Soccer Team will be traveling to Ecuador from May 22 to May 28 to play a series of charity games and to conduct clinics. Red Bull New York has donated 150 soccer balls and 600 Red Bulls t-shirts and gear that will be distributed to the students at Republica De Estados Unidos, a public school that provides education to underprivileged children in the Ecuadorian city of Guayaquil, other organizations, as well as at the clinics.
The trip, funded by FENODE (the Ecuadorian North American Sports Federation), was realized in large part due to the efforts of Dr. Raul Carrion, the Ecuadorian Minister of Sports; Abdon Calderon, the new President of FENODE; Ernesto Motta, Red Bull New York Senior Director of Spanish Communications, Broadcasting, and Affairs; and Lieutenant Ronald Mejia of the New York City Police Department.
The trip will kick off on Friday May 23 with the visit to the school, and will continue on Saturday, May 24, when the group will travel to the city of Milagros for a charity game, where donations will be accepted for a number of organizations. The NYPD will play against a team of celebrities, including the Minister of Sports, Minister of Education, and ex-Ecuadorian soccer stars. At halftime presentation will be made and New York City Director of Park and Recreation Miguel Cuellar will conduct a soccer clinic, with the participants receiving Red Bulls soccer balls and t-shirts.
On Sunday, May 25, the group will conduct a similar event in the city of Machala, returning to Guayaquil by Monday, May 26, to conclude the visit with more charitable events.
