Not much to say about this except to move on to Friday for our match at Colorado.
Head coach Juan Carlos Osorio on the result:
Captain Kevin Goldthwaite:
Just a reminder, comments left that have profanity will not be tolerated and will be removed. We're just as disappointed with the loss as all of you are but please stay clean with the language.

Absolute rubbish...At least show up and get a goal and fight...You have 50+ supporters travel out on their own time and they see that result it's pathetic..
Thirteen years, and nothing has changed: Different Players, different shirt, but same results on the pitch..
It's time for someone to pay the price for failure. Knowledgeable fans have been saying since the end of last season that this squad didn't have the talent to compete.
Because we need to stick with the tactics that the team has been taught from February, we should keep Juan Carlos Osorio until the end of the season, and if he wins a playoff series, he should keep his job.
But the fans demand a price be paid for how talent-poor our squad is.
Jeff Agoos should resign or be fired, this week.
And if Claudio Reyna, who is cheating this team out of nearly a million and a half dollars this year, PLUS the opportunity cost of not being able to sign someone who can contribute, leaves with him, so much the better.
But in the meantime, we demand that Jeff Agoos be fired.
Fire Agoof!!
ghost of metro past, you are right to an extent. I think that the talent is potentially there, it's the heart that is not. For me, JPA is that heart of the team. Emotion when he scores, lets his frustration out by working harder and playing through pain until he was FORCED to shut down for a couple of weeks. I watch videos on youtube from supporters of clubs from around the world regularly. They show passion and love for a team that has deep roots and rich history no matter how good/bad it is. I don't understand how the ESC keeps it up. I cannot think of a way to make a banner about RB and how i love the team. I cannot think of (thinking of) making a large tifo like Roma does at their games b/c I CANNOT FEEL THE PASSION WITH red bull. I'm not one of those guys who can't stand that RB bought the team, it's just that everything seems so fake and perfectly lined-up... sorta like trying to "Build your own car" on the Dodge, Chrysler, and Jeep websites - everything is stupid! We have the most passionate and "never-die-down" supporters in the league with the ESC. Something must be done AT THE CORE to change the way the New York MLS team organization is run. Once RBP is completed and Giants Stadium is behind us, I have a good feeling that things WILL change. I WANT to stick to that idea. And I WANT to love this team as much as possible. I get poked-fun of at school by my friends who think MLS is a joke and that US Soccer sucks. There HAS to be a way to change this.
Anon (post #4): I don't think the people who run the team understand or care about how the supporters feel.
If Red Bull want their investment in this team to succeed, they'll listen to those of us who live and die by the club, despite the "rebranding." And they'll make changes, NOW.
If not, they'll lose the few people who still care about how our club does.
Fire Agoos NOW. He should not last the week.
AGOOS MUST GO AGOOS MUST GO, if Red Bull wants any fans left by the time Red Bull Park opens(whenever that happens) they need to make some changes. FIRE AGOOS, he's done nothing for this club, or its fans, which are running for the hills.
I can't seem to put my hand on what is wrong with this franchise. first thing I think is that the heart is not there, yes, but there is more, we changed the coach and that did not help, I think that the base of this team is flawed, more than just agoos needs to go, we need to let go of players too, i am sorry but players that play OK one week and get a lucky result does not sponsor anything in the fan base, we know who the stars of the team are, but they cannot win alone, in a country where individual behavior is encouraged and team play is not, this makes me think is the U.S. ready for soccer?
Oh Metro, I don't know what I'd do without you in my life.
would you people stop saying US soccer and MLS are a joke, you people just dont get it, not because you have a sorry azz team, would affect the entirely league or country, PEOPLE GROW UP!!!!!
I guess no surprise - the second team, LOL...our starters are a second team....the players they sent are no better, and they proved it, than a USL team......look an idiot could improve a team in 13 years - but not the leadership we have......so so embarassing to be a fan.....approach Claudio on resigning and getting relief for the two years he robbed this team.....someone up top (the office ) needs to be ejected.....oh yeah, dont forget to keep looking for more rejects in central america to fill roster spots - these guys dont get it, dont want toplay here and are no better than americans
Nice of Osorio to basically forfeit this game with that sorry ass roster he brought down here. This was a U.S. Open Cup Game!!!! How do you not take this seriously!! Clean HOUSE!!! This team is pathetic! Losing to a 3rd rate USL Club!!! I'm embarrassed to be a fan as always. Can't wait for NY2.
"Not much to say"??!!?!?!? Is that the best rebullreader can say.
How about sorry!
redbull embarrassed themselves in front of the 50+ supporters who took time off work and spent there own money to follow this team.
WE'RE OUT THE CUP BY A USL2 SIDE.
Did rebull think they were not going to "market product" at an untelevised game at a high school. Rest the better (sometimes thats a stretch) players for Friday. Was that the orders given to JCO???????
I appreciate the efforts in utilizing this blog to report a 'dark" game but these people have years of frustration that's now culminated with a new and epic failure to focus on.
If you delete those comments I would ask that they be cleaned up and presented to those in charge of the team as this isn't going to blow over with some Independence Day fireworks in Colorado.
A blog by the team is a great idea but censorship is flat stupid. Removing a supporters opinion is the same as attempting to silence them. If they feel that they are unheard you may have just lost a paying customer that buys tickets, merch and would typically get out and be a vocal advocate in growing YOUR business.
In response to:
"would you people stop saying US soccer and MLS are a joke, you people just dont get it, not because you have a sorry azz team, would affect the entirely league or country, PEOPLE GROW UP!!!!!"
New York is a major market for any organization, and saying that it does not effect MLS or US Soccer is childish, so really the people who need to grow up are the ones that say because a major market has a sorry team and that it does nothing to MLS' bottom line, remember MLS is not a democracy, it is one entity and if one major market's sorry azz is not performing well, will cause issues. hence a New York team should perform better than it is now, for the good of the whole MLS/US Soccer concept to survive.
I think this is really simple. Osorio has enough on his plate with the season to pay any mind to the Open Cup. Sure, he forfeits his CL chances, and yes, 50+ fans took a drive down to watch something they could have seen in Montclair - but its Osorios decision to take this route.
Now, with three signings on the horizon, the MLS Cup should be the one and only focus of this franchise. If you send the message that the Open Cup is of little to no importance, the club has to respond by playing competitive, winning football.
Besides, I think NY/NJ may be allergic to the Lamar Hunt Trophy at this point. lol. Years of avoiding it, what other explanation can their be?
I'm ashamed and disgusted to be a fan of this club today. What's worse is this team has the worst front office in all of MLS, there is an obvious and clear disconnect with the fans, which is frankly insulting and disgusting. I'm sure non of this will ever reach the ears of anyone that matters. I've been a New York fan all my life, but look at TFC's front office if you want an example of a competent front office, you guys are a joke, and it really saddens me that you're all being payed to do what you do.
Not to make any excuses of course - I am as humiliated as the next guy about this loss, and think a CL chance would be a cream dream.
But I will reserve all anger if the season shoots down to hell. Because the saving of this season is the only reason I can find to perform and strategize like they did against Palace.
The worst part of this loss wasn't the actual loss. But the fashion in which it lost. From the beggining JCo set this team up to lose by including the reserve squad, setting the tone that this tournament/game does not matter. When if fact it probably MORE important than MLS cup since it give you an automatic berth to Concaf Champions Cup. That means more exposure and more money for Red Bull than any MLS regualr season game or MLS Cup can bring.
But the WORST part of it that the team and players fail to acknowledge the fans once again. WHy is it so hard to applaud them? All you gotta do is wave or something, just show some appreciation for the efforts of some 50+ fans who all took the day off from work and paid their way to go cheer YOU on. Yet you cant even look at them and thank them for coming out. And this has gone on for YEARS with this team.
It just shows the kind of appreciation this organization has for its fans and the effort they put forward. 50 people may not seem like much in the grand scheme of thing but how do you expect that number to grow when you dont give a crap about them. Thats enough to deter anyone from caring enough to do that again.
I actually thought about taking the 3-hour trip down to see this game. Then I remembered this club's history of going out in the first round of the Cup to inferior opposition. It's not even like we dumped the entire "first" XI for the reserve team. Is it possible to fine the entire squad a game's pay? Because they sure didn't earn anything Tuesday night.
13 1/2 seasons, 13 head coaches, 1 playoff series win, 1 Conference regular season title trophy (which we promptly broke)...I'm really starting to wonder why I stick with this club. For me it's only another 20 minutes drive to Chester, PA. Anyone want to bet on which club wins a significant trophy sooner, the MetroBulls or the Philly Franklins? Or which club has a new stadium completed first?
I expect a public apology from the front office, the manager and the squad.
I think its more troubling that a team of reserves was trotted out in Baltimore, but a friendly in Arizona, where no RBNY fans were, had almost a full starting line up. 4 wins and we would have been in a meaniful international competition, we will need more than that for the SS and MLS Cup.
Does anyone really care that much, I sure as hell don't. This means nothing to me, so we lose, great non of our players got injured and now we can focus on something for important, trying to get in the playoffs. I could care less about this loss and all it shows is how awful we are at defense, if you people don't already know, we have officially singed Jorge Rojas who could play at either midfield or defense and Argentine defender Juan Pietravallo.
Most of you probably haven't seen these guys play but I have and Rojas is very impressive at his age and Juan looked good in the little games that I have seen.
Total embarrassment...
Someone said it before, JCO should print out all these comments and even those laced with profanities and tape them up in the locker room at the next match... so they feel the pain we feel, and go out there and fight like their livelyhood depends on it.
They call themselves futbol players. Lazy sacks of doo doo... most of these players came from suburbia, sons of priviledged families just waiting for their careers to be over so they can go and put on a nice suit and reap the rewards of their family's connections.
Arena had it right, there's no passion in our soccer.
As someone who has been a supporter for years, I have to say that I am losing my stomach for this team. I have always been one of the most vocal about supporting a team through thick and thin, but at least have the team show a little love back. When CPUSA won, they went to the stands, threw jerseys, jumped up on bleachers... Meanwhile we beg for our team to even look at us as they walk through the tunnel at GS.
For those who don’t appreciate the importance of the Open Cup, you are living in the past. The Open Cup winner gets a guaranteed spot in the CONCACAF Champions league. That is worth something.
Look, I spent a lot of time and money getting down there yesterday (as did a lot of us); it would have been nice if the team gave some sort of effort. Here's a novel idea: actually have a forward. I think somewhere I read that some guy Mega something or another was a forward, but the only person I ever saw move ahead in the first half was Borman.
A few people commented on recent signings; well let me put my frustration on hold then while we wait to see how these players fail. We have been in need of, at the very least, a solid CAM, a replacement forward, and a defensive mid all season. Who do we get stuck with, this joke of a player Boyens, who time and time again fails at every opportunity he gets.
Im all for giving JCO the benefit of the doubt. I am sure he is struggling with these losses as much as we are (and probably more), but I do feel we need to clean house in the FO. Start by dumping Agoos and work from there. Oh, but why would you do something like that. Why get rid of a guy who has failed every step of the way.
This team is an embarrassment in its current state. We have a supposed captain who is so hurt that he can’t seem to suit up for us yet he will collect his 7 figure paycheck and go play pick up games in NYC (also a wonderful Sports Illustrated interview where he bashes his coach), a rash of injuries to key players probably related to poor practice grounds, and failing attendance as this team spirals into the worst downfall I have seen in years (minus the Mets end of season last year, and the Knicks this year). Let’s not blame anyone for this stuff though. It will all be better when we have RB Park right?
I have so much more to say, but does it even matter. Nothing comes of this. Fans have been going out of their way to ask for Agoos to be fired, Reyna to retire, nothing happens. The team doesn’t care. Let’s face it, Metro is the 6th team in a 6 team town, and they just keep trying to alienate the fan base that has stood with them day in, day out. That’s a great business model. The most I have heard from the front office is, "can you stop calling the team Metro and call them Red Bull?" At least Metro had some semblance of actually caring about a fan base.
How many more failings do we need before we wake up?
Here's an idea: How about posting audio from the team publicly appologizing for the embarassment that was last night's game. Maybe follow that up with an appology to all the fans who pour their hearts out for this team and recieve a second rate product.
Red Bull is a joke. Stop making this team a joke.
well speaking of trimming the fat, as you all may know that all mls players saleries are a matter of public record, were can we trim the fat hrmmmmm:

So I decided to make the crystal palace trip the first away game I would attend and boy did I make the wrong choice...I was so excited to be coming down..left work early and everything for what? I'm disappointed in our loss and in the players attitude. We got our @$$e$ handed to us by a bunch of prepubescents and nobody cares...
so freaking what ,lost game ,big deal ,only thing is that players couldnt look in our faces...if not for a fact that one of the sheriffs spoke to me about running onto the field i would just run there and emberessed them even more...but whatever we got some jerseys we show them that no matter what we have their back...wait for them when they came out of the lockers ..boyens,parke,goldie all said that are very sorry to for the show that they preseted to us,and thank us for support.
No matter what i had great time ,passion will be there even when they will loss all games in one season...we are the club...WE ARE THE E.S.C
EL POLACO ESC
If I didn't support them I wouldn't have gone...a loss is just hard to swallow...I would have waited if it had not been for the long drive home and the fact that I had work the next morning...yet dispite it all I had a great time and I look forward to attending more away games...I'll always support them no matter what.
